What's New in The Featherweight Shop Vintage Collection - January 2022

Here at the Featherweight Shop, we have quite the collection of vintage Singer items.  Due to our remote location, very few customers have had the opportunity to see the many rare Singer items we have.  This series of blog posts brings our collection out for all to see what new items we receive.  Some of these items may be famous and recognizable, but there may be other items that very few individuals have ever seen or heard of before.  For the month of January 2022, here are some of our recent finds:

We were surprised to find this very unique buttonholer box.  Clearly original Singer, but the graphics style and coloring are very unusual.

This 1929, large, rare, Argentine book of Singer embroidery shows many images of beautiful art - worked using a Singer sewing machine.  The Collie depicted above is just marvelous!

The Singer Centennial matchbooks are always a great find, and the blue-colored (consistent with Singer's Centennial marketing color) books are even more rare.  Click here to see if we have any of the original Centennial matchbooks for sale.

We were thrilled to come upon this German, pocket notebook/calendar.  It is completely unused, and the imagination does not need to run far when wondering why it was left blank.  The strain of Nazi persecution of so many Jewish citizens/businesses certainly left many people out of touch with daily routine.

This original employee Achievement Award watch from Singer is in fabulous condition!

This rare German book consists of 15+ patterns for doll clothes that could be sewn on the Singer Sewhandy Model 20.  This appears to be something that may have been intended for use in the classroom. It is complete, and just the name and city lines are filled out.

These are two empty boxes that would have contained bulk Singer needles.  The Singer shops would have had these bulk boxes, and customers would purchase a pack of likely 3 or 5 needles.  The German box is marked that it contained 1000 15x1 needles.

This appears to be just a basic early 221K manual, but further inspection inside revealed a one-sided page addendum slipped in the back.  Singer later had this addendum printed inside the manual, so this must be a very early example of the 221K manual.

Another rare buttonholer box!  This box contains the common 160506 buttonholer that we all know and love here in the USA, but this one was likely sold to French Speaking Canada; that would explain the different box style as well as the French Manual.

The Singer pattern tracing wheels are so fun to collect in the variety of designs.  The 'Sunburst' style was sold in Italy and the Large 'S' style was sold in France.  Click here to see if we have any original pattern tracing wheels in stock.

This colorful French advertisement from Singer features the Featherweight 222 and many other machines and notions from Singer.  The large 'S' pattern tracing wheel shown above confirms that style was sold in France.

This mini employee pin has a gem in the middle and four stars.  It is a more elaborate employee pin than some of the other Singer pins from the same era, but we are unsure about the significance of the four stars.

This mini oil can from Singer in Germany is in great condition.  It has a spout that could pour a significant amount of oil and a Bakelite screw plug with the Singer 'S'.

There are so many fun vintage Singer items here at the shop, and we are very excited to share our new finds with the Featherweight community.  Stay tuned for next month!
